Boxing promoters rarely see eye-to-eye. Former world champion Oscar De La Hoya laughed at Eddie Hearn after Mexican champion Canelo Alvarez signed with a new promotion. The face of Golden Boy Promotions taunted the CEO of Matchroom Boxing on Twitter for losing Canelo.
Canelo Alvarez had a brief stint with DAZN and Eddie Hearn. However, ‘Saul’ decided against re-signing with Hearn to test free agency. The fighter signed a three-fight deal with PBC worth over $100 million. Ahead of his fight against Jermall Charlo, the 32-year-old boxer will earn over $30 million from the fight purse. Although fans are confident, Alvarez’s recent fights showcased his deterioration as a boxer. However, that is not the hilarious part about the new deal.
Oscar De La Hoya took to Twitter to mock and laugh at the CEO of Matchroom Boxing. The former boxer posted a collage of the British promoter crying and wrote, “#lonesomeeddie.” Oscar De La Hoya managed Canelo Alvarez in the past, and Oscar got hurt after Canelo left him for Hearn.
As joyously as Oscar De La Hoya laughed at Eddie Hearn, fans failed to laugh alongside him. On Twitter, fans attacked the former fighter for his ‘miserable’ takes. Since Canelo Alvarez and Ryan Garcia left the Golden Boy Promotions, fans took their opportunity to laugh at De La Hoya.
