Paulie Malignaggi reveals what Canelo Alvarez should have done to win against Dmitry Bivol
Paulie Malignaggi on Canelo Alvarez
At the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Dmitry Bivol defeated Mexican fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Alvarez has only previously lost to Floyd Mayweather in 2013, and this was his second defeat. Alvarez was able to land on Bivol’s left shoulder and arm for the majority of the damage, but he appeared slow and helpless following the heavy punches.
Because the rematch was in his contract for Saturday’s fight, Alvarez expressed his desire to use it. He stated, “I think I did enough to win the fight, but hey, now what I want is a rematch because this is not going to stay like this.”
From 2001 through 2017, Paulie was a professional boxer. He won world titles in the junior welterweight and welterweight divisions and retired with a 36-8 record. He has worked as a pundit and analyst after retiring from the sport.
Paulie Malignaggi reveals his insights on the Canelo Alvarez’s defeat to Dmitry Bivol
Prior to the fight between McGregor and Mayweather, Malignaggi gravely ridiculed and discounted McGregor’s prospects of defeating Mayweather, so when the fight was planned, The Notorious asked him to come out of retirement and spar with him at his Las Vegas training camp.
When asked about what Canelo should have done, he explained that pre-fight Paulie knew that Canelo would not be to comprehend Bivol’s pace even if he wanted to. Canelo increasing his pace wouldn’t have been a viable option for him as per Paulie as he believes Canelo is not a high-paced fighter.
“He shouldn’t go for the rematch,” says Malignaggi as he is not confident in the abilities of Canelo Alvarez. “Stylistically it’s not the best matchup plus it’s not his best weight class.”
