Canelo settles his trilogy with Golovkin

Canelo Alvarez finally managed to shut up his doubters with a third and definite victory over Gennady Golovkin. The duo first met in 2017 and since then have been involved a series of three thrilling fights.

While the original bout ended in a draw, the second saw Canelo edge out a decision. Needless to say many were against this controversial decision and the victory has remained with an asterisk in Canelo’s resume. Hence walking into the trilogy Canelo had big claims of not only wanting to beat GGG but also end his career.

Canelo walked into the fight looking to get the knockout. While he was unable to secure that, he did show that time had clearly caught up to GGG. Since the start of the fight, Canelo easily outclassed the much slower Golovkin. For the first 6 rounds there seemed to be absolutely ni resistance from GGG.

By the time GG started responding in the 9th round, it was not enough despite Canelo’s seemingly fleeting gas tank. Though Canelo managed to outclass GGG in every aspect, he received some criticism for not being able to finish the fight.

Many also looked to see Golovkin go ahead and retire, however, he revealed that he intended to continue despite being 40. GGG has now spent nearly 30 years of his life as a boxer.
