Devin Haney had some harsh words for Ryan Garcia recently during an interview with Ariel Helwani. Furthermore, Haney vowed to make him an example for his opponent when they collided in the ring on April 20. The undefeated WBC super-lightweight champion stated that he had heard rumors that ‘KingRy’ had made inflammatory remarks about Islam. While Garcia and Haney are amateur boxing rivals, it appears that Garcia crossed a line by doing this.

Haney went on to say that his fight with Garcia has now become very personal and that he is determined to make him regret his comments. Furthermore, Devin Haney also stated that he will represent his religion when he enters the ring.

He knows what he said; he knows who he said it to… Now I have to make an example of him. This is bigger than me; this is for Allah; this is for all the Muslims around the world.

Hence, Garcia claimed that he wished Haney a ‘Merry Christmas’  which Haney took umbrage with. According to Garcia, Haney then told him that the phrase was offensive to his religious beliefs, which Garcia found ridiculous.

Garcia then called Haney an idiot and revealed that he believes in Jesus Christ but had no religious convictions. Furthermore, Garcia stated that he does not hate any religion and mentioned that his photographer is a ‘dope Muslim’.
