Boxer Ryan Garcia is not a fan of new WBC Lightweight Champion Shakur Stevenson‘s lackluster performance. The bout in question is the unanimous decision win over Edwin De Los Santos. Stevenson picked up the vacant WBC lightweight title with a fairly subtle and defensive game. But the overall fight earned the label of being boring from multiple fans and peers.

Stevenson landed a total of 65 punches in the 12-round fight. Los Santos countered with 40 of his own. Out of the 209 punches that were statistically observed, only a few could connect. Even less had counters; for which the fighters caught a whole lot of flack. Ryan Garcia first ripped the matchup on social media during the fight, having to watch it during Formula 1 weekend.

Later, deeply observing the match even further, he did not change his stance. Talking to BoxingScene.com, Garcia said:

Shakur, he's been getting on my nerves since the amateurs. He's so arrogant, and I don't say that about nobody...But man, he just walks around like his sh*t don't stink. And he talks sh*t about everybody and thinks he's some type of dude who knows everything about boxing. Well, if you knew everything about boxing, then why the hell did you not get to [De Los Santos]. He was scared of him and didn't throw any punches ... he has to humble himself a little bit ...

After the fight, Stevenson’s promoter, Bob Arum, said that the 26-year-old had been dealing with various ailing perturbances in the lead-up to the fight. Stevenson said De Los Santos fought scared. De Los Santos shot back with a retort that Stevenson treated the fight like a “track meet”.

This is not the first time the boxer has been appalled by slow performances. Garcia will return soon, to take on Oscar Duarte, at 26-1-1, 21 KOs, at the Toyota Center in Houston on DAZN. The bout is in December. His last stoppage skid came to Gervonta Davis, in April.

Rolly Romero rips Shakur Stevenson on his latest performance

Rolando Florencio Romero Moreno, better known as Rolly Romero, trolled Shakur Stevenson’s latest performance. Romero has held tenure as the World Boxing Association (WBA) super lightweight, since May 2023. Additionally, he has held the WBA interim lightweight title from 2020 and 2021.

Romero captured the 140lbs title after defeating Ismael Barroso. He claimed the WBA super lightweight belt with a ninth-round knockout.

Stevenson recently won the vacant WBC lightweight title, against Edwin De Los Santos. But the fight dragged on, with a slow-paced performance. Stevenson himself has publicly apologized for not having performed at par with expectations. In a recent interview, Romero mocked the boxer, saying:

Shakur(Stevenson) will put anybody to sleep….outside the ring. He’s the most boring fighter in the history of boxing...

Both the fighters have had to-and-for banters, trashing each other. In the latest interview, following Romero’s victory, Stevenson admittedly commended his ability to sell fights. Further on, he had called him “the biggest conman in boxing“, who cannot fight.
