UFC Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley recently provided his perspective on the Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou fight. He talked about the challenges faced by Francis Ngannou and Conor McGregor when they went toe-to-toe with legends like Tyson Fury and Floyd Mayweather.
Sean O’Malley was astounded by the exceptional talent that Francis Ngannou displayed in his first venture into boxing. He emphasized the significance of Ngannou’s massive size and the remarkable power he possessed. In a recent episode of the TimboSugarShow, O’Malley said:
It's cr*zy when you're that big…I wasn't expecting it to not be good,…It's different to when Conor fought Floyd…Floyd wasn't really worried about Conor just sitting him down and putting his lights out.
O’Malley highlighted that Mayweather was not overly concerned about being knocked out, which shaped the dynamics of their fight. However, when it came to the heavyweight division, Tyson Fury had to consider the possibility of getting knocked out by Francis Ngannou because of his massive size.
The former UFC champion narrowly missed the chance for a historic upset in the boxing realm. This matchup drew parallels to Conor McGregor‘s famous clash with Floyd Mayweather in 2017, which was aptly dubbed the ‘Money Fight’ and became a record-breaking pay-per-view spectacle.
Sean O’Malley believes that Tyson Fury outboxed Francis Ngannou
Sean O’Malley agreed with the judge’s decision that Tyson Fury won the fight against Francis Ngannou. Suga Sean admitted that he could be biased in his assessment as he had rooted for Tyson Fury. However, he stated that other than the knockdown, Tyson Fury won the majority of the fight.
Sean O’Malley said that he thought Tyson Fury won the fight. He acknowledged Francis Ngannou’s size and the knockdown he secured in the third round of the fight. However, O’Malley felt that Tyson Fury simply outboxed the MMA fighter. On his “TimboSugarShow” podcast he said:
I personally was kind of going for Tyson the whole time…so when I watched the fight maybe I was a little bias toward Tyson… I have to go rewatch it. I just thought he outboxed him.
Regardless of the speculations, Tyson Fury’s status as the undefeated heavyweight boxer remained intact. Many figures in the combat sports world accused the commentators and judges of being biased. Francis Ngannou himself decided to appeal the split decision.
