After his first career loss against Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia made a spectacular comeback. Furthermore, Garcia fought hard for eight rounds against the Mexican boxer Oscar Duarte and eventually emerged victorious via TKO. However, Shakur Stevenson, the undefeated WBC lightweight champion, had nothing nice to say about Garcia in an interview.
Shakur pointed out that Ryan Garcia, who has a 24-1 record with 20 knockouts, had a fighter practically “tailored” in the form of Oscar Duarte. In addition, Stevenson stated that Garcia does not possess anything other than his signature left hook attack. Furthermore, Stevenson stated that Garcia has not accomplished anything in boxing. This is what he said:
Ryan never won anything in boxing. He has never accomplished anything in boxing besides fighting with Tank.
Additionally, Stevenson stated that Garcia fought at 140 pounds and would prefer for Garcia to lose weight if they fought. Furthermore, Stevenson stated that Garcia didn’t have much of an inside game against Duarte. The two exciting boxers could face each other in the future.
Subsequently, Stevenson stated that Garcia was holding back his opponent by leaning with a poor shoulder roll. Given Ryan’s flaws, it was difficult for Stevenson to believe he was fighting in the main event. In addition, Stevenson stated that Garcia’s style looked more like an amateur boxer’s and not a very good one.
Ryan Garcia says Shakur Stevenson needs to be more humble
Stevenson, the undefeated American lightweight, became a three-time world champion in three separate divisions. Stevenson won the WBC lightweight title against Edwin De Los Santos by a unanimous decision after fighting for 12 rounds.
Furthermore, Garcia also broke down Stevenson’s recent win over De Los Santos and criticized Stevenson’s performance. Garcia went after Stevenson for his lackluster performance and called him an arrogant fighter who needs to humble himself clearly.
Stevenson’s fight against De Los Santos was also heavily criticized by boxing fans and experts, who called it boring. Subsequently, the fight lacked a lot of action, and both fighters did not throw many punches during the fight.
This led many fans to leave the arena because of the lackluster performance. Furthermore, Garcia’s comment on Stevenson reflected on this very aspect, and Garcia stated that Stevenson acts like he is everything in boxing.
