Ryan Garcia‘s much-awaited comeback fight against Oscar Duarte ended with a TKO in the eighth round. In April 2023, Garcia suffered his first professional boxing loss when he lost against Gervonta Davis. This setback took away the aura of superiority associated with Garcia throughout his career. Nevertheless, he was able to come back from the disappointing loss with a dominating performance against Duarte.

Furthermore, during the match, Garcia used Floyd Mayweather’s iconic defensive shoulder roll against Durate. During the fifth round of the fight, Ryan Garcia employed an inferior version of Mayweather’s shoulder roll. Subsequently, Garcia was awkwardly stiff and was leaning back excessively while using the technique.

The real showstopper came in the 8th round. Facing a hostile home crowd, Garcia delivered a devastating check-left hook, followed by a vicious series of shots that sent Oscar Duarte sprawling.

Unfortunately, the Mexican boxer was unable to beat the count, prompting the referee to call a halt to the fight. Furthermore, Garcia dominated the early rounds and seemed to have the fight under control. Duarte fought back in the second and third rounds and put up a good fight against Garcia’s smart shots.

In the eighth round, ‘The King’ stunned Duarte with a check left hook. Garcia then connected with a wild left hook that staggered Duarte and forced him to the canvas. Subsequently, Duarte did not beat the referee’s count and Garcia was ruled the winner by TKO.

Fans react to Ryan Garcia using Floyd Mayweather’s shoulder roll

Garcia returned to the ring after suffering his first professional loss to Davis earlier this year. Duarte was unbeaten on an 11-fight winning streak and was expected to be a challenge for ‘KingRy’ in his return fight. Subsequently, the fight was not an easy one for Garcia, and both fighters fought hard until the end.

However, the turning point for the fight came in the eighth round when Garcia threw a barrage of body shots. Furthermore, a noteworthy point of the fight was Garcia’s use of an inferior version of Mayweather’s shoulder roll. Subsequently, Garcia was able to stay defensive with the stance but got caught by a few shots from Durate.
