Teofimo Lopez plans to hang his gloves after winning the WBO super lightweight championship last night. Lopez fought Josh Taylor inside the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden and won the fight via unanimous decision.

It was an impressive win however, the fighter has shocked his fans and followers when he  shared an old picture and made it clear that he wants to retire from the sport. Lopez made a post on his Instagram account revealing that he has retired at the top and thanked boxing for everything.

He wrote in the caption: “What a relief! Retired at the Top. Thank you Boxing for the amazing life you’ve provided for myself and my entire loved ones! THE DOUBLE-GREATEST #JesuslsKing.”

It came as a shock as the fighter is only 25 years old and has fought only 20 professional fights in his career. Lopez has proved that he’s a great fighter and fans wanted to see more of him but that might not be the reality anymore.

Lopez came into the fight with a two fight win streak against Josh Taylor who was undefeated in his career. Lopez showed great heart and put on a great performance to snatch the win via unanimous decision. After the fight, Lopez and Taylor both shared mutual respect. Josh in his post fight interview mentioned that Taylor was a tough challenge but he fought through it.

He said: “Josh Taylor is a tough dude. I can see why he beat so many fighters. But you’ve got to counter the counterpuncher. You’ve got to outsmart the man and get in there. And I did that. I think I did enough. This is what it is all about. I questioned myself for a good reason. You guys don’t understand. I’ve always been my worst critic. And you guys got a little glimpse of it. But I’ve just got to ask you one thing, and one thing only. Do I still got it?”
