Terence Crawford showed his disappointment in fans for not appreciating his performances in the ring. He terms them in his own words as “greatness.” Terence Crawford did not win the prestigious award of the Ring magazine publication Fighter of the Year.
Naoya Inoue was the first Japanese boxer to win this award in the 95 years of the publication. However, this infuriated Terence Crawford as he felt his fight and dominant win against Errol Spence Jr. should have solidified his position as the Fighter of the Year. Due to this Crawford even hinted at retirement. In a tweet on social media platform X, he said:
I might give yall 1 more or not because yall don’t know how to appreciate greatness when you see it.Terence Crawford via X
Terence Crawford is considered one of the greatest switch-hitters ever to grace the boxing ring. He also is many fans’ pick as the pound-for-pound number 1 fighter. However, these are mere opinions of a biased fanbase, and this annoyed Crawford. He wanted official recognition for the absolute beauty he had performed in the ring.
Being 36 years old, a question does arise: how long can he do it for? Father Time stands undefeated. Even the most talented prospects in boxing, like Crawford, also will have to take a knee in front of time. Only the future holds the answer to whether or not Crawford will fight again. How many fights Crawford has in him is anyone’s guess.
The megafight between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr.
It had been a long time coming. Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford were two forces bound to clash at some point or another. Their rivalry goes a long way back. Fans always love to see the best fight, and this fight was no exception. Both these fighters were in their prime, and the fight delivered nothing short of the fans’ expectations.
Leading up to the fight, both fighters got on each other’s nerves, trying to prove they were the better boxers. In a confrontation, Crawford asked Spence Jr to bet a million dollars; although this was simple trash talk, it shows how badly these fighters needed to silence the nay-sayers.
The fight was a megaevent but somewhat onesided as Terence Crawford completely dominated Spence Jr. The former had also knocked down Spence 3 times before the referee intervened to stop the fight in the 9th round.
The battered face of Errol Spence Jr was proof of how big of a beating he withstood. Errol Spence Jr. now claimed that his poor performance was due to a cataract in his eyes, which disabled him from seeing clearly. Fans now eagerly wait for a rematch. Who shall emerge victorious can only be answered in the future.
