Tyson Fury had a shocker of a night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He performed poorly as he went against Francis Ngannou in a 10-round boxing bout. Going into the fight, Fury was confident about putting on a dominating performance against debutant Ngannou.
The former UFC heavyweight champion had some other plans, which he made clear in the third round when he dropped the Brit on the floor. Fury then took his time and bounced back. At the end of the bout, he was the winner via split decision. But this attracted a lot of criticism from fight fans and experts, who accused the judges of robbing Francis Ngannou of the obvious win.
The aftermath of the fight is becoming evident, with Fury, who was set to face Oleksandr Usyk in December, now unwilling to participate in the match. Recently, Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, confirmed that the December clash will be rescheduled and will probably take place in January or February next year. Warren said,
"We were going to do it on 23 December. I doubt that will happen now. Tyson can't be going into a camp after a tough fight like that. That's eight weeks away. He needs at least a bit of time to get himself, his body, back into shape. Let it heal. Then get into a camp. It will be on early next year."Warren on 5 Live boxing podcast.
Frank Warren mentioned that due to the damage Fury sustained in the Ngannou fight, he won’t be ready to face Usyk in eight weeks. It’s regrettable, but fans might need to be patient and wait a bit longer for the Fury vs. Usyk matchup.
Oleksandr Usyk isn’t happy about Tyson Fury not fighting on December 23 as previously planned
Oleksandr Usyk was present in Riyadh and watched the Fury vs. Ngannou fight live from the ringside. When asked about the fight, he insisted he was surprised by Ngannou’s performance but as a former champion, it was expected.
Usyk has had his sights set on the heavyweight title unification bout with Fury for quite a while. Prior to the Fury vs. Ngannou fight, it was planned for December 23. However, with the altered schedule, Usyk is clearly unhappy with the situation.
Oleksandr stated that they have a contract specifying the fight’s date as December 23rd. If TysonFury wants to rest, he should vacate his title first. He confirmed by saying that Tyson must fight, and they need to go through with it on the given date. In the end, he sent his regards to Tyson and expressed his love.
