Francis Ngannou turned down a lucrative contract offer from the UFC after months of negotiations. The UFC has released ‘The Predator,’ allowing him to focus on a potential switch to boxing. Subsequently, Ngannou and Tyson Fury will collide in a mega-fight in Saudi.
The pair are on a pre-fight press tour in London ahead of their epic 10-round crossover match-up. Furthermore, the event will be co-promoted by Queensberry and Top Rank and by Ngannou’s GIMIK fight promotions. Fury boldly said after the recent press conference, “I’d like to fight Ngannou in the cage. I think I can beat him.” In addition, he added that Ngannou did not possess good Jujutsu or wrestling skills and relied on his striking abilities.
Subsequently, Fury boasted that his striking abilities remained far superior to Ngannou and had more destructive power for a KO. Fury also believed if he could incorporate some elbows and kicks into his fighting style, he could easily deal with Ngannou in the cage. This challenge is intriguing because people feel that Ngannou was entering uncharted territory with his boxing debut.
Fury appeared ready to do the same and believed he could win despite lacking MMA experience. The only obstacle in their way is a potential match-up between Fury and unbeaten champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Brawl between undercards at the Fury vs. Ngannou press conference
The red-carpet press conference for the Fury vs. Ngannou fight went quite smoothly until chaos ensued in the end. However, David Adeleye and Fabio Wardley caused it instead of Tyson Fury or Ngannou.
While Adeleye did an interview, Wardley approached him, after which Adeleye shoved him and instigated a brawl between them. Someone from Adeleye’s team punched Wardley, knocking him down, while security rushed in to separate the two. After the chaos ended, it became clear that Wardley got a cut on the left side of his face. Since claiming the British heavyweight title last year, Adeleye has repeatedly challenged Wardley, and the two will collide in Saudi Arabia.
Whether the British title will be at stake remains unofficial at the moment. However, it could change as we approach the fight date. The main event between Fury and Francis Ngannou will not have the WBC belt on the line.
