Terence Crawford declared the only belt that truly matters in boxing. Currently, he holds all four belts: WBC, the WBA, and the IBF belts at 147 lbs. Crawford was the first to win the undisputed title in the welterweight division. Furthermore, he achieved this after stopping Errol Spence Jr. last month in their long-awaited showdown where Crawford dominated Spence.

In an interview on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Crawford conceded that there were too many belts in the modern era. He named the Ring Magazine as the only championship that would be recognized. Crawford said, “The only one that really matters is the Ring Magazine Belt because it is free. Why should I have to pay to be a champion? That [Ring Magazine title holder] is the number one guy in the division, that’s how it should be.” (H/T- Boxing Social)

Crawford justified himself by stating that boxing could only be cleaned up by making it a one-level sport. He used the example of the UFC where there are few weight classes and the champion always fights the best contenders. Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez have proven that belts don’t mean anything at the pinnacle of their career.

Crawford stated that once someone becomes big, the championship no longer holds any value. Hence, Crawford wants less division and fewer titles to clean up the limitations of the sport of boxing.

In the highly anticipated unification bout, Terence Crawford delivered a devastating performance to become the undisputed welterweight champion. With the win over Spence Jr., he validated his credentials as the best fighter in the world regardless of weight class.

In an interview, Crawford was asked about his feeling toward the performance of Spence Jr. Crawford replied, “I’m like Drago, If he dies, he dies.” The hilarious reference was from Rocky IV, about the Russian boxer leaving some of the reporters speechless.

Bud further mentioned that in a fight, you have to have a certain mentality to survive. He never wished harm on anyone harm and wanted them to go safely to their homes. However, in the ring, when it comes down to it, it’s all about surviving.
