Rolando Romero took on Isaac Cruz on March 30. In the build-up, Romero hilariously trolled Isaac Cruz during the pre-fight press conference by calling him ‘Chihuahua Cruz’. This was a wordplay on Cruz’s ring name ‘Pitbull’. To make matters worse for Cruz, he added that the fighter looked more like a ‘pug’ instead of a ‘Pitbull’.

The ‘Chihuahua Cruz’ joke started after people at the press conference noticed Romero’s necklace. It was a locket with a chihuahua that had the face of Cruz. The locket was custom-made by Romero intending to anger his opponent. Subsequently, Romero proclaimed his confidence about the fight and stated that he would ‘dog walk’ Cruz.

Romero also proceeded to call his opponent dumb and predictable in terms of the way they fought. During the press conference, Isaac Cruz announced that he intends to obliterate Romero with straightforward attacks. Hence, Romero believes that Cruz’s intentions while fighting make him predictable, making it an easy fight for him.

Rolly also believed that Cruz approached every single fight in his career in a unidimensional manner and did not create new game plans to tackle different opponents. In addition, during the press conference, Rolando offered to keep the ‘Chihuahua Cruz’ locket at stake with the belt. Subsequently, Romero remarked that it wouldn’t matter since he would be KO Cruz during the fight

Isaac Cruz promises to silence Rolando Romero

It was clear that Romero was trying to aggravate his opponent, but Cruz appeared to maintain his cool. Instead, Pitbull might use this as motivation to finish Romero in the ring.

Cruz also mentioned how he is laser-focused on becoming the new WBA lightweight champion and wishes to honor his Mexican heritage. Furthermore, while talking about Romero, he referred to him as the true chihuahua. He justified this by stating that Romero only trash talks but does not attack, just like a chihuahua.

Cruz also brought up how Romero was helpless against Gervonta Davis. He also reflected on his own performance against Davis where he went the distance against the champion. Thereby, claiming to have a better outing than Romero, who was knocked out with a vicious left hand in the 6th round against Davis.
