Joe Rogan
We all know, Joe Rogan speaks his opinion without holding back anything. Back in 2007 when he was invited on ESPN to hold a debate against American boxing promoter Lou Dibella defending their respective sports. Rogan being a color commentator of the UFC was ought to take MMA’s side.
However, Dibella’s animosity towards the UFC and general ignorance of MMA, though, didn’t sit well with the UFC promoter. Rogan then verbally destroyed Dibella, who appeared to have taken the dispute too personally. Dibella misunderstood Rogan’s knowledge of boxing and claimed he was ignorant of the sport. In response, Rogan said, “What you guys don’t understand that you guys are a dying breed…your sports is getting swallowed”
Rogan claimed that boxing was going to be absorbed by other forms of combat sports. Rogan further added that only boxing was a one-dimensional sport of punching whereas UFC embodies every aspect of fighting. Fast forward to 15 years and UFC has become the most-watched promotion in the MMA world.

In the same interview, they were asked about the possibility of UFC taking over boxing. Lou explained that boxing has nothing to do with UFC; they can exist as two separate entities. But the UFC color commentator made the bold claim that there won’t be any more famous boxers and the boxers who were already well-known before the UFC arrived are the only famous boxers who will still be there in the future.
Joe Rogan said, “The famous people that you have right now are the only famous people that will exist in the future for boxing – the Oscar de la Hoyas, the Bernard Hopkins, the Jermain Taylors, the guys that were already famous before the UFC came along – there will be no new ones. They will all go to MMA”

Joe may have been right when he said that mixed martial arts will become a mainstay of combat culture, but he was wrong about the future stars of boxing. Fighters like Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, and Tyson Fury have brought excitement back into the boxing arena. Even UFC fighters like Conor McGregor and Anderson Silva have made appearances inside the boxing ring.
