Mike Tyson has left a huge mark in the world of boxing during his time as a professional boxer. While his role as an active fighter might have ended, Tyson still leaves his mark on pop culture and Hollywood. Fans have been accustomed to Iron Mike appearing in many Hollywood movies and on talk shows as well. Mike Tyson was seen playing the role of vocal coach in the spoof version of The King’s Speech on Jimmy Kimmel.
The skit was aired during a special Oscar edition of Jimmy Kimmel’s US chat show. Mike Tyson was seen helping the look-alike of former US President George Bush to rectify the errors in his speech while addressing the crowd. His role in the sketch ‘ The President’s Speech ‘, was a hysterical imitation of Geoffrey Rush’s Oscar-nominated part from ‘The Kings Speech’.
Iron Mike played the role of a vocal coach and performed many antics to help the Bush doppelganger get his speech right. The former heavyweight champion recited lines from Hamlet, performed voice exercises, and rolled the doppelganger on the floor to help with his speech. However, after each try, Tyson saw his pupil fail. He held his head, watching the former US President cause a blunder several times. “Worst dude in the history of speeches,” cried Tyson as he saw his training go in vain.
After several training montages and antics, Tyson watched Bush try to address the crowd without fumbling. This time Tyson’s tactics worked and he was seen with wet eyes as Bush got through his speech without an er. Tyson’s comical role made many gasp for air, and he continues to leave his mark with cameos in other movies to this day.
Mike Tyson didn’t know about his cameo in the movie Hangover
Boxing Legend and former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has had quite a few appearances in pop culture. The retired boxer has also appeared in many projects outside of Hollywood. However, his cameo in ‘The Hangover‘ was the most surprising one for Tyson himself.
Mike Tyson played himself in the 2009 movie The Hangover starring Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis. The movie made around 467 million dollars worldwide and was a blockbuster among fans. His cameo in the movie surprised him because Tyson was under the influence of drugs then. In an interview with Tony Robbins Tyson stated exactly what went down.
“It was Zach, he said, ‘We’re going to be in a movie with you.’ And I said, ‘Yeah? When?’ And he said ‘Tomorrow.’ “And I didn’t know as I was drinking and smoking back then, doing drugs so I didn’t know I was involved in the movie. So eventually I had to go and do the movie and it was a success,” said Tyson about his role. Tyson later went on to star in the movie’s hit 2011 sequel, ‘The Hangover Part 2′ as well.
