The much anticipated Oscar De La Hoya vs Vitor Belfort does not look like it will happen. The legendary boxer has been hospitalized on the count of COVID-19.

Oscar De La Hoya was scheduled to fight Vitor Belfort in a Triller boxing promotion on September 11th. Unfortunately, the boxer has contracted the COVID virus and has been forced to pull out from his fight. The promotion has not guaranteed the fight may happen on that date for Belfort but they do have a back plan. Replacing one legend, another legend in Evander Holyfield has been contacted to step in against KO artist Belfort.

The fight was originally scheduled to take place in California but according to TMZ Sports, the location has been shifted to Florida. This will happen if the California State Athletic Commission does not sanction permission for Evander Holyfield to step in against Belfort.

After the terrible news was announced that the boxing legend won’t be able to make the fight, Oscar posted a video from the hospital saying he will be back stronger and will look to fight before the end of the year. “Wanted you to hear directly from me that despite being fully vaccinated, I have contracted Covid and am not going to be able to fight next weekend,” said Oscar.

“Preparing for this comeback has been everything to me over the last months, and I want to thank everyone for their tremendous support. I am currently in the hospital getting treatment and am confident I will be back in the ring before the year is up. God bless everyone and stay safe,” he ended.
