Vitor Belfort will be facing boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya in his second professional boxing match. The fight will be taking place on the 11th of September, under Triller Productions. The fight will be an exhibition bout, with the weight limit for Oscar De La Hoya -175lbs and Belfort- 190lbs.

The gloves would be 10oz gloves, with eight 2-minute rounds. The news was first reported by the Athletic and later confirmed by famed MMA reporter Ariel Helwani on Twitter. He initially mentioned the date as September 18, only to correct it to September 11 a few minutes later with a follow up tweet.

‘Oscar De La Hoya and Vitor Belfort have verbally agreed to meet in a boxing match’

Helwani’s tweet read, “Oscar De La Hoya & Vitor Belfort have verbally agreed to meet in a boxing match on Sept. 18 under the Triller banner, per Ryan Kavanaugh. Exhibition bout. DLH 175 pounds, Belfort 190. 10 oz gloves 2 min rounds. 8 rounds. Hoping for LV. They will do a concert Sat/Sun & a Verzuz.”

Vitor Belfort was initially scheduled to face ‘Instagram Tarzan’ Mike Holston under the same Triller banner. But the fight was scrapped due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Belfort just has one professional boxing bout to his name. It came way back in 2006, when he was at the peak of his powers. He beat fellow Brazilian Josemario Neves in the first round via. knockout.

Oscar De La Hoya, on the other hand, last fought professionally in 2008, against Manny Pacquiao. He never fought professionally or even in a serious exhibition match after that. The 48-year old American will be backing his old slick skills when he takes on the marauding Belfort.

The organizers are looking to set up the match in Las Vegas, while also planning a host of other activities throughout the fight weekend.
