Super-featherweight champion Oscar Valdez in trouble after he tests positive for banned substance Phentermine

Oscar Valdez
Oscar Valdez’s super-featherweight title fight against Robson Conceicao is in jeopardy after the former tested positive for banned substance phentermine. This comes a couple of weeks after his samples were submitted on the 13th of August. The exclusive coverage for the same was provided by Mike Coppinger of ESPN.
Phentermine is a central nervous stimulant and is banned by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association. Both of Valdez’s A- and B- samples tested positive for phentermine. With only a week left for the fight (September 10), team Valdez will be hoping that the Mexican would be allowed to carry on.
“We believe at this point it comes from an herbal tea” – Oscar Valdez’s lawyer
Pat English, Valdez’s lawyer, wrote in a letter, “Mr. Valdez had no knowledge that he was taking phentermine and that we believe at this point it comes from an herbal tea.”
Valdez’s manager Bob Arum claimed the same as well. He stated that his client got it after drinking herbal tea, and sounded confident that the fight would go on, on the 10th of September.
Oscar Valdez is currently undefeated in his boxing career with 29 wins and 0 defeats. The 30-year old Mexican won the super-featherweight title against fellow Mexican, Miguel Berchelt on the 20th of February, 2021. The fight against Conceicao will be his first-ever title defense of the super-featherweight title.
Conceicao, on the other hand, is undefeated as well. With a record of 16 wins and no losses, he will be looking forward to upsetting the Mexican at the Casino del Sol in Tucson, Arizona. Will the fight go ahead? Can Valdez overcome all odds and put on a successful title defense?
