Vasiliy Lomachenko decides to defend his country’s honor over a fight against George Kambosos Jr

The world is currently on high alert since Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February. In the meantime, Vasiliy Lomachenko has done his part for supporting his motherland. The invasion was the result of a build-up tension that started in early 2021 when Russian president Vladimir Putin questioned the post-1997 enlargement of NATO as a threat to his country.
In this situation where everybody from Ukraine is coming together to help each other, boxer Vasiliy Lomachenko didn’t hold back in his support. The Ukrainian boxing icon armed with an M16 assault rifle has joined the Belgorod-Dniestrovsky Terror Defence Battalion in his hometown. Lomachenko is considered one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world and is a three-division world champion.
In one of the pictures shared by the Ukrainian media, Lomachenko was seen wearing the military uniform on the battlefield. The boxer recently posted a peace message on his official Instagram account for his fans and followers. Ariel Helwani was moved by his actions, and he left a message of support from his Twitter handle.
George Kambosos Jr reacts to the news of Vasiliy Lomachenko’s decision of pulling out from their fight
Loma was offered a fight against Kambosos Jr, and he was prepared to fight him for the world championship. After a series of unfortunate events that happened in Ukraine, Loma decided to pull out from this fight, and his manager took the time to inform Kambosos’s corner. George took to Twitter to react to this news, and he completely understand Loma’s decision.
He wrote, “Vasiliy Lomachenko I respect your decision and I totally understand and I pray for you and your country. Please stay safe and once I wipe the floor with Devin, we will make this fight between two real champions. God bless.”
