Ukrainian boxer Vasiliy Lomachenko is regarded to be one of the best boxers in the sport. His elusiveness, alongside the speed behind his punches, has been tough to brush aside for his opponents. His amateur career stands out from his fellow boxers as the fighter has amassed a count of 396 wins and only one loss. The Ukranian has managed to grow immensely popular due to his skill set and techniques that are displayed in the ring.
However, like any other contender, Vasiliy Lomachenko has also tasted defeat in his professional career. Despite winning 17 fights, he has lost twice in his professional career. The Ukrainian boxer has stepped into the ring against tough contenders and has shown to redeem his losses since.
Let’s take a look at the two opponents Vasiliy Lomachenko has lost to.
Vasiliy Lomachenko’s first loss against Orlando Salido
Orlando Salido is a retired professional Mexican boxer. He started his professional career in 1996, and since then, he has been using his skills to emerge victorious. He is also responsible for handing Vasiliy Lomachenko his first loss in his professional career. In boxing, styles make fights, and that was proven on the 1st of March, 2014. The Ukranian fighter took on Salido in a twelve-round professional bout.
Throughout the fight, the Mexican contender overwhelmed Vasiliy Lomachenko with his style. With his exceptional footwork and powerful shots, he was able to slow the Ukrainian down. Orlando Salido also targeted Vasiliy’s body constantly as the fight went on. Orlando’s multiple shots to the head had a visible effect on the Ukrainian boxer.
Despite suffering a lot of early losses in his career, Orlando Salido was calculatingly aggressive during this bout. Salido was able to upset the former amateur star, winning the bout by a split decision and handing Lomachenko his first career loss.

Vasiliy Lomachenko’s second defeat against Teofimo Lopez
Since his loss to Orlando Salido, Vasiliy Lomachenko managed to redeem himself. The Ukrainian boxer went on to fight tough contenders and emerge victorious. Fighters like Luke Campbell and Jorge Linares tasted defeat at the hands of Lomachenko following his first loss. However, this streak would come to an end in 2020. As ‘Loma’s much-anticipated bout against American professional boxer Teofimo Lopez came to fruition, he was in trouble.
The fight between Lopez and Lomachenko was a highly anticipated bout. On the 7th of October, 2020, Vasiliy Lomachenko was outclassed by a young and talented Teofimo Lopez. The fight was on edge as both fighters traded heavy punches. However, judging by the outcome, Lopez was able to land more power shots that slowed down the Ukrainian boxer. Despite having success in the later rounds, the American boxer went home victorious.
The fight ended up in a unanimous decision victory for Teofimo Lopez. A much-anticipated rematch had been in talks since their first bout. Despite the second fight not taking place, the bout in 2020 was a significant moment for Vasiliy Lomachenko.
