Former WBC champion, Jermall Charlo is in serious trouble. The prominent boxing figure faces serious legal consequences following a DWI arrest and is set to appear in court later this year. Here is what happened:

The incident occurred earlier this year in May, when Jermall Charlo allegedly crashed his red Lamborghini Urus into another vehicle in Brazoria County, Texas. After the crash, Charlo reportedly got into a verbal altercation with the other driver before fleeing the scene. However, police tracked him down shortly afterward, and he was arrested.

Authorities claimed that Charlo displayed signs of intoxication, with his blood alcohol content (BAC) measured at .15. That is nearly twice the legal limit in Texas. Charlo was formally charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) and misdemeanor charges for leaving the scene of the accident. These charges are serious, as they not only involve the DWI but also the act of fleeing the scene, which could exacerbate the penalties if convicted.

Charlo posted a bond of $9,500 after his arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court in November, where the case will proceed. The outcome of this legal battle could have significant ramifications for his future, both inside and outside the boxing ring.

Back in 2021, Charlo was also arrested on felony robbery charges. This was a result of an alleged dispute with a waitress over a bar tab. The charges were dropped later when the case did not progress. These incidents have created significant disruptions in his boxing career and legal standing.

Charlo has been open about struggling with mental health issues. His struggles with depression and bipolar disorder have definitely affected his boxing career. As a result of all his controversies, the WBC stripped him of his middleweight title, further complicating his professional trajectory.
