NASCAR broke into the limelight in the 70’s because of the controversial fight that featured the Allison brothers and Cale Yarborough. Since then, it’s often the fights and similar controversies that has often covered by the non-traditional media about NASCAR, while impressive racing moments are often overlooked.
Despite the 2024 Cup season featuring two of the closest finishes ever in the history of Motorsports, the events that got national media attention was the fight between Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kyle Busch at North Wilkesboro All-Star race. The incident was discussed almost the whole week, with the video of Stenhouse punching Busch going viral.
I asked @keselowski (who had a great take) abt. why in sports the fights, the hits seem to get media coverage not the good racing or in other sports the great stick and ball playing. Hits get hits! pic.twitter.com/ApAyL0W3fL

That’s what the people wanna see. It seems that way. Doesn’t mean it’s always right, in fact, often they wanna see it because it’s not right. But we are still an entertainment-based business.Brad Keselowski told Claire B Lang.
Brad Keselowski has empathy for NASCAR over the incident
The future Hall of Famer earlier pointed out that the media often gives too much emphasis on the moments involving fights over good racing. He admitted that he has a lot empathy towards NASCAR because of the as the only way to handle this is use such moments to promote itself.
Some of the moments that I think we would like to break through as a sport to no offense to you guys, non-traditional media, that grows our sport, doesn’t seem to do that but then somebody throws a punch and all of a sudden, we’re on all sorts of non-traditional media. I just have a lot of empathy for NASCAR. If I was in their shoes, I don’t know how I’d handle it any different.Brad Keselowski said.
The points made by Brad Keselowski is spot on as NASCAR has grown into the big sport it is because of similar moments in the past along with great racing. Being an entertainment driven business they have no option but let it happen and use it.
