Brady Tkachuk Just Had One Team He Was Willing To Be Traded To
The Ottawa Senators parted ways with Brady Tkachuk after eight seasons including two back-to-back postseasons in 2024-25 and 2025-26.

Everyone had their doubts, and rumors were rife about a potential Tkachuk brothers meetup. It has happened, as Ottawa Senators send their captain, Brady Tkachuk, down to Florida as his contract expires ahead of the new season.
The 26-year-old Scottsdale born will join his older brother Matthew Tkachuk at the Florida Panthers. Meanwhile, the Senators have received three first-round picks and a second-round selection in return. While clarifications are required, it is to be believed that the Senators will receive the 9th and 25th selections this year, a first-round pick in 2029, and the second-round selection in 2030.
Earlier, the Senators denied claims of Tkachuk shifting bases. However, the winger reportedly had no plans to re-sign his contract, which was set to expire this season. Furthermore, it has been reported that he only wanted to suit up for the Panthers and play alongside his brother.

Steve Staios, president of hockey operations and general manager of the Senators, expressed confidence in the decision taken by the management.
This was not a decision we took lightly, but ultimately we did what we felt was best for the long-term future of our hockey club. We now possess cap space and draft capital and will be actively working to improve our roster.
Staios said after the news of the trade broke out
As cherry on top, the Tkachuk family was together when Brady received the news. The brothers were in town for a Father’s Day gathering, and nobody had a better Father’s Day than the former NHLer Keith Tkachuk. Earlier this year, his two sons also played in the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics 2026 and won the historic gold medal for the United States of America.
NHL analyst speculates locker room noise as a catalyst for Brady Tkachuk trade
As the hours passed, more reports are emerging about the blockbuster trade. While the inability to come to a conclusion towards a contract extension drives the primary conversation, newer reports indicate a different angle: a rift in the locker room.

NHL analyst Renaud Lavoie attributed the Ottawa Senators’ decision to trade Brady Tkachuk to internal discord. In a post on X, Lavoie noted that internal dynamics were the reason why Ottawa management consented to transfer their team captain to a divisional rival, despite the inherent risks involved.
Lavoie subsequently reinforced his assessment in a follow-up statement, writing:
Brady Tkachuk trade is a total bomb, but I’m told pressure was high on the Senators to make it happen. Told by multiple sources the dressing room was not pushing for Brady to stay. That being said, it’s still a gamble to trade him in the same division.

According to Senators Insider Bruce Garrioch, the reasons behind the trade are quite deeper than what may have transpired. Garrioch reported that the organization’s front office felt compelled to act after persistent speculation regarding the captain’s long-term future escalated into a significant external distraction.
This administrative unease reportedly intensified immediately following the conclusion of both the 4 Nations Face-Off and the Winter Olympics. The Tkachuks and the Hughes were heavily scrutinized in the Winter Olympics controversy involving the disparaging locker room call with Donald Trump.

Garrioch also indicated that the Senators’ front office became convinced that a separation was inevitable, as the player had no intention of signing a contract extension in Ottawa. The move was a proactive measure, rather than putting something that will eventually need a resolution, the Senators acted ahead before the contract becomes the central theme of the offseason.
