The Florida Panthers will have another player named Tkachuk on their team next season. On Sunday, reports emerged that the 2-time Stanley Cup champions were acquiring Brady Tkachuk in a huge trade deal from the Ottawa Senators.
The Panthers currently employ Brady’s elder brother, Matthew Tkachuk. The 28-year-old has been one of the top names in recent seasons for the team and has played a massive part in their back-to-back success in 2024 and 2025.
Meanwhile, Brady Tkachuk was the captain of the Senators. While he still had 2 years remaining on his contract, the Canadian side reportedly traded him away to the Panthers.

This development came a few hours after the Panthers traded away Mackie Samoskevich. The South Florida-based team traded their former Round 1 pick to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for a first-round pick (No. 25) in the 2026 NHL Draft (previously belonged to the Tampa Bay Lightning) and the better second-round selection from either the Winnipeg Jets or Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2027 NHL Draft next year.

To Panthers:
25th pick this year
Conditional second next year (either Columbus or Winnipeg pick)
The trade of Brady Tkachuk, though, has sent massive shockwaves across the NHL world. In 60 regular-season games in the 2025-26 season, the forward had 59 points (22 goals and 39 assists).
However, he failed to register a single point in the playoffs. The Senators got swept 4-0 in the first round by the eventual champions Carolina Hurricanes.
As for the Panthers, they failed to qualify for the postseason this year. After back-to-back triumphs, they went 40-38-4 and finished 7th in the Atlantic Division. Matthew Tkachuk, meanwhile, was sidelined with injuries and played just 31 games. In this, he picked 34 points (13 goals and 21 assists).
Social media reacts to Brady Tkachuk being traded to Panthers

Senators claim decision to trade away Brady Tkachuk was not taken lightly
The Ottawa Senators stunned the NHL by trading away their biggest piece in Brady Tkachuk. Following this, general manager Steve Staios addressed the team and claimed that this decision was not taken lightly.

In a statement, he expressed that this was the best thing for them in the long-term future.
This was not a decision we took lightly, but ultimately we did what we felt was best for the long-term future of our hockey club. We now possess cap space and draft capital and will be actively working to improve our roster.

Tkachuk was selected by the Senators in the 2018 draft as the No.4 pick. In October 2021, he signed a 7-year, $57.5 million deal to remain in Ottawa.
A month later, he was named the captain of the team. In his stay in Canada, the American international picked up 463 points (213 goals, 250 assists) in 572 regular-season games, and 7 points (4 goals, 3 assists) in 10 playoff games.
