Golf analyst Brandel Chamblee has made another strong statement against Jon Rahm. He claimed that Rahm had sold his business for a “discount” after the golfer fell out of the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings ahead of the Masters Tournament.

Rahm was once on top of the OWGR. However, since his move to the LIV Golf in December 2023, his ratings have taken a hit. He only gets this ranking points while playing in the major championships and the DP World Tour events.

Rahm had an incredible debut season on LIV Golf tour. He won two events and finished top of the individual standings to take home the Individual Championship.

Despite this achievement, 2-time Masters Champion Jose Maria Olazabal is unpleased with him. In a recent interview with Spanish outlet El Pais, the Spanish international claimed that LIV was “not best” for preparation for the major championships.

Jon Rahm had an extraordinary future and the opportunity to make history, to write golden pages of golf. I don’t know if he will be able to do it now. Playing LIV is not the best preparation for the majors.

Jose Maria Olazabal said

Brandel Chamblee would come across this on X. The Golf Channel analyst had previously slammed Rahm for his move and claimed that he was somebody who could be bought.

Reacting to this, he agreed with the take of Olazabal. He took a dig at Rahm’s previous statement regarding money and claimed that he indeed prove that he was concerned about money.

I agree with Jose… Rahm sold his business for a discount. THE player who said he was more concerned with history, in going to LIV, proved he was more concerned with money.

When the merger deal was announced in Jun 2023, there were talks of players who stayed back on the PGA Tour getting compensated for their loyalty. At that moment, Rahm claimed that he was uninterested in getting paid. A few months later, he would join LIV Golf on a $600 million deal.

Jon Rahm had previously slammed OWGR and claimed it was not a good system

For the past few years, Jon Rahm had established as one of the modern-day greats of golf. The two-time major champion had won several events on the PGA Tour and was a regular in the top 10 rankings. He has now fallen out of the top 50 of the OWGR for the first time in 8 years. He had previously claimed that the system was not good.

In the press conference before the LIV Golf Hong Kong event, Rahm claimed that as time goes on, his claim on OWGR points gets proven more right.

I’m going to be honest, I didn’t know they were still trying to get World Ranking points. But the one thing I can say is I’m going to back to what I said two years ago in the DP World Tour Championship. I didn’t think it was a good system back then. And if anything, the more time that goes on, the more it proves to be wrong.

Despite the lack of OWGR points, LIV Golf has achieved major success in recent days. The Saudi-backed tour has found direct pathways into the U.S. Open and the Open Championship. With the merger deal also going on, there are chances that these LIV Golf players will receive ranking points again.
