Brandin Cooks is entering his second year at the Dallas Cowboys and believes that the Dak Prescott slander gets out of hand at times. In the veteran wide receiver’s view, it’s blasphemous.
Cooks returned to training on Wednesday, one day before the Week 1 games kickoff in Kansas City. He missed parts of the Cowboys’ training camp because of a bad knee, but his rehab went well enough for him to rejoin the team.
After the day’s session ended, Cooks spoke with the media at length about the unfair criticism Dak Prescott faces from the media.
It's blasphemy. It's unbelievable. The guy shows up every year, year in and year out. Putting up numbers, leading his team. He can't do it all by himself.Brandin Cooks said as per The Athletic’s Jon Machota.
Prescott recorded mind-boggling numbers in 2023, with 410 completions, 38 total touchdowns, and only 9 interceptions. The Pro Football Focus graded him 90.8 for his performance as he finished runners-up in the NFL MVP voting.
Brandin Cooks compares Dak Prescott with other great quarterbacks
Over the years, Cooks has played with several great quarterbacks. He pointed out that all of them were skilled and great at getting the best out of their teammates on the field.
However, it goes both ways. If the teammates don’t show up on the day, the quarterback, no matter how good he is, will struggle.
He [Dak Prescott] can't do it all by himself. A lot of those great quarterbacks that I've been with, Tom [Brady] and Drew [Brees], don't get me wrong; they won a lot of games and won a lot of Super Bowls, but they had a lot of help around them as well, right? Us players around [Dak Prescott] also got to step up.Brandin Cooks added.

Cooks addressed the next words to his Cowboys teammates. The 30-year-old wants them to step up when it matters the most.
So, when we hear that disrespect [on Dak Prescott], we should take that personally, because, at the end of the day, somebody has got to be able to help him get over that hump so we can go win one.Cooks added.
The Oregon State graduate was drafted by the New Orleans Saints when Drew Brees was still playing, and a few years later, he spent a season with Tom Brady at the New England Patriots. He also shared the locker room with Jared Goff at the Los Angeles Rams and played in the Super Bowl.
Dak Prescott receives much scrutiny because of his bad playoff record. Since entering the league back in 2015, Prescott played post-season in five seasons and has a win record of 2-5. The best he could do was play in the NFC divisional playoff round.
However, as Cooks pointed out, football is a collective game, and the Cowboys haven’t been great far longer than Prescott’s years in Arlington. The last time Jerry Jones celebrated an NFC title win was back in 1995. Last year, they lost to the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round, prolonging Jones’ dream of winning his fourth Super Bowl.
