Jurickson Profar will miss the entirety of the 2025 MLB season. This is, however, not due to an injury. On Tuesday, the outfielder tested positive for Performance-Enhancing Drugs (PEDs) again. The Atlanta Braves would later issue a statement and admit being “disappointed” with this.

In 2024, Profar had a career-best year with the San Diego Padres as he slugged 24 home runs and had 85 RBIs while batting at a .280 average. In the offseason, he became a free agent.

During this period, he joined the Braves on a 3-year, $42 million deal. With Ronald Acuna Jr. missing some games due to injury, Profar’s signing was seen as a huge boost to the offense of the Braves.

Just 4 games into the season, the team lost him for 80 games as he tested positive for PEDs. The outfielder tested positive for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) substance. As a violation of the MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, he received an 80-game suspension.

Following his suspension, the player would issue a statement and claim that he was left devastated by this. He would also apologize for his actions in this statement.

In his first game after suspension, Profar would go 2-for-4 against the Los Angeles Angels and hit a home run. Some fans made some wild jokes regarding this. He eventually wrapped up his season with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs from 80 games while batting with a .245 average.

This year, he was gearing up to play for Team Netherlands and play in the World Baseball Classic (WBC) again. However, he will not be able to play in this now due to his second positive PED test.

The ex-Padres star tested positive for Exogenous Testosterone and its metabolites. With this being his second offense, he was handed a 162-game suspension.

The Braves would later comment on this matter. The National League East side claimed to be “disappointed” and expressed their support for the Program.

We were incredibly disappointed to learn that Jurickson tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance and is in violation of MLB’s Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Our players are consistently educated about the Program and the consequences if they are found to be in violation. The Atlanta Braves fully support the Program.

Profar will remain suspended without pay. The Braves will not owe him a $15 million salary this season. Even if the team reaches the postseason, he will remain banned.

The MLB Player Associations (MLBPA) are challenging this decision. His suspension will begin this Friday. As per insider Jeff Passan, the last time a PED suspension was overturned via grievance was almost more than a decade ago.

This is Profar’s second suspension from the MLB over PEDs over the past 12 months. After his first suspension, the player called it one of the most difficult days of his career.

While reacting to his 2nd PED suspension, insider Jon Heyman called him an “excellent” member of the Mount Rushmore of “Baseball Cheats.” In his tweet, Heyman urged that he should return half of the money he received last year.

Jurickson Profar is an excellent candidate for the Mount Rushmore of Baseball Cheats. If he had any integrity he’d return the half year of pay he got last year.

Profar, however, is not the only player suspended by the MLB for testing positive for PEDs on Tuesday. Philadelphia Phillies star Johan Rojas was handed an 80-game suspension as well. Like Profar, the 25-year-old is also appealing this decision.
