BREAKING: FC Barcelona pull out of the European Super League
Joan Laporta
All the major clubs in the newly founded (and newly extinguished) European Super League have understood that football is nothing without the fans. Manchester City and Atletico Madrid who followed Chelsea’s suit in withdrawing from the European Super League are now joined by FC Barcelona. It seems like Perez will be starting a new league with just Real Madrid.
FC Barcelona withdraw from the European Super League
Joan Laporta will not finalize Barcelona’s entry into the Super League until they have received the approval from socios. Without their ‘OK’, the Catalan Club won’t take part in the competition.
President Joan Laporta says that Barcelona will NOT enter the European Super League without the approval of the Assembly of Members. He adds that they are the ones who decide, it’s their club.
Barcelona will NOT have to pay any termination penalty (fee) if the socios vote AGAINST the club participating in the Super League. This is a clause in the document, with the Super League, signed by Joan Laporta.
Earlier in January Joan Laporta had already shared his discomfort with the European Super League.
“I don’t support the European Super League. There are other ways of income, not this tournament that would disrupt the sport. I would like a Super Club World Cup for example, similar to the format of the regular World Cup every 2 years maybe.”
