Brian Daboll doesn’t blame Daniel Jones for Giants’ TNF loss to Cowboys

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll is reluctant to incriminate the starting quarterback Daniel Jones after a loss to division rivals Dallas Cowboys. The Big Blue failed to put more than 15 points on the scoreboard as the Cowboys extended their head-to-head winning streak to seven.
The Giants are in a bit of a pickle after losing three out of four games in the season so far. The Big Blue’s only victory came against the Cleveland Browns in Week 3. Earlier, they suffered losses to the Minnesota Vikings and another division rival Washington Commanders. The Giants are now running the second straight season with a 1-3 start by Week 4.
The head coach Daboll highlighted one of the key issues with the Giants in the season, as he alluded to the fact why they weren’t able to win. Daboll noted that the quarterback made a lot of praisable level-headed decisions and throws.
In the game against the Cowboys, there were a number of issues that continue to haunt the Giants all season long which aren’t “Jones”. Agreed, However, it is also to be noted that Jones underthrew open receivers on multiple passes, which could’ve been touchdowns. There’s also the fact that despite progress, it doesn’t heavily matter unless the result also comes out pretty.
There’s no question as to whether the Giants’ quarterback has cleaned up his act in the last weeks or not. After the dismal start, he has recovered and playing “locked in” after the booing and jersey immolation. On Thursday night, Jones went 29-of-40, completing 72.5% of his passes for 281 yards. He was sacked only once, and though he did throw an interception, that came on a Hail Mary at the end as the Giants were looking for a miracle touchdown.
Brian Daboll and the Giants have a lot of issues to work ahead of Week 5
Looking at the upcoming weeks, this season could go away from the Big Blue pretty soon if they aren’t working on their issues. The run game is the top priority. Giants running back Devin Singletary strumbled to find space to run, totaling just 24 runs on 14 carries. The choice of Daniel Jones over Saquon Barkley is affecting them as the latter leads the NFL in rushing yards.
Dropped passes are a huge issue. Entering Week 4, the Giants had more than 10 drops – landing them second in the league in terms of the drop amount. Daniel Jones isn’t great but FTN data revealed that Jones had suffered eight dropped passes already, for a league-worst 7.7-percent drop rate.
There were a couple of things that were not under the Giants’ control against the Cowboys. However, with Malik Nabers suffering a concussion, things are going to be impacted in some way. The Giants will need to address these issues, some of many, as they head to face Geno Smith’s powerful Seattle Seahawks.
