A recent report from BodySlam noted that Brock Lesnar has been discussed for a match with Oba Femi at WrestleMania 42. It got a number of fans excited with two goliaths making up for a marquee clash of the titans.

However, this has been disputed by Dave Meltzer, who noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that ‘The Beast’ was internally listed to battle LA Knight at the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’ as of late January.

Meltzer did mention how Lesnar and Femi had many back-and-forth exchanges during the men’s Royal Rumble match to get the Riyadh crowd going. It appeared as if WWE was subtly hinting that this would be the WrestleMania match.

Back then, the 10-time world champion had the last laugh as he dumped Oba Femi over the top rope just when ‘The Ruler’ momentarily turned his back on Lesnar to focus on eliminating Logan Paul.

The fans were anticipating the former UFC ace to put over Femi at WrestleMania, which would’ve catapulted the Nigerian wrestler into a whole different stratosphere. But if the latest bit from WON is to be believed, Brock Lesnar is set to take on LA Knight, someone who tagged with Cody Rhodes to dump ‘The Conqueror’ on the floor at the Royal Rumble.

However, it happened at a time when Jey Uso was doing his signature “Yeet” taunts within the crowd. What it did was completely ruin the desired reaction and shock factor that should’ve been there when a once-in-a-generation athlete like Lesnar was being sent out.

However, if WWE is actually going ahead with ‘The Megastar’ opposing ‘The Beast’, it’s not implausible. Lesnar is scheduled to return on the 2/23 edition of Raw in Atlanta. The fans could surely expect his WrestleMania direction to be hinted at that night.

WWE is struggling with WrestleMania tickets amid creative plans uncertainty, citing Brock Lesnar

In another excerpt from the latest WON release, Dave Meltzer talked about the backstage frustration in WWE regarding the company not sticking to the plans it originally had for WrestleMania 42.

The constant tweaking and not having mapped out the majority of the Mania card, with the show just being 60-odd days away, has been attributed to the sluggish ticket sales. WWE reportedly held a multi-department meeting to discuss ways to get the fans interested in its biggest show of the year.

The promotion is in a spot of bother, with most of the stars not being informed about their WrestleMania roles this close to the show. At this stage, only Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk is being considered a lock, although it’s subject to the outcome of Punk’s title defense against Finn Balor at the Elimination Chamber. The official build to Mania wouldn’t start until the Chamber PLE is out of the way.

Regardless of how many times the creative plans get shuffled, WWE has to get its cards right this time around. Last year was a complete bust. After delivering two blockbuster WrestleMania shows in 2023 and 2024, what the fans witnessed in Las Vegas felt like a total letdown, and it almost reeked of WWE manipulating the audience with ordinary effort and not expecting any sort of backlash in return.

From the Travis Scott shenanigans in Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena to Drew McIntyre having to settle for a Damian Priest win, it wasn’t what the fans asked for. The company officials need to be wary of not neglecting the inputs and reactions churned out to what’s being presented on a weekly basis on Raw and SmackDown.

Take, for instance, the fans who have already started revolting against the idea of feeding LA Knight to Brock Lesnar, as it would likely result in a squash, with ‘The Megastar’ getting punished for staying mighty popular with the crowds for years now. Meanwhile, a Lesnar showdown with Oba Femi is where the money’s at. It’d be interesting to see what route WWE does end up taking.
