Bronny James scores LeBron James-esque three-pointer to overcome shooting slump

In his first three Summer League games as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Bronny James shot 0-16 from the three-point line. In the last game, which was his fourth, he broke that duck and shot two. It seems that game was all that was needed to bring out his confidence. It showed when he took a shot, quite similar to what his father, LeBron James, does, to send fans going wild on the internet.

This shot was not his first highlight. In the first quarter, he faked a pass to send opponents away from him, and he calmly shot a jumper. But it was not the highlight of the night, when he took the most opportune time to replicate one of LeBron James‘ iconic shots. With 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter and the Lakers trailing, James Jr. had the ball in his hands. He tried to get past players but couldn’t. So, he dribble-faked to create a bit of space, took a step back, and shot it from behind the arc.

The play was akin to the fadeaway’s his father routinely takes from the three-point line. However, for him to go for that despite being in a slump recently shows that the 19-year-old is slowly growing his confidence. In the last game, he breached the double digits in points for the first time.

This time, he again scored in double digits but also contributed with his defense and floor spacing. Connecting with fellow draftee Dalton Knecht on a couple of possessions. Their combined efforts in the final minutes led to the second straight Summer League win for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Fans of the game did have expectations from Bronny James, but his first few games brought up concerns. He did say that he was going through a shooting slump, but analysts thought it was worse. However, his last game did bring back some hope. Plus, this fadeaway shows his overall increase in confidence. It’s evident enough for fans to now hype him up for pulling off this move and for a bright future.

Now it seems James Jr. is starting to come out from the pressure of being LeBron James’ son. It is a pressure only he knows how to handle in the best way. All that said, this could be the start of something good for the 19-year-old’s career.
