Brooklyn Nets vs Washington Wizards: Kyrie Irving and James Harden combine for 54 to lead team to victory

With Kevin Durant out, Kyrie Irving and James Harden have held the leadership role at Brooklyn Nets very well. The duo combined for 54 points to finally inch the Nets past the Washinton Wizards 113-106 in their most recent encounter. Out of the 54 combined, Kyir Irving scored team-high 28 points, whereas James Harden added 26.
The game wasn’t only headlined by James Harden and Kyrie Irving, but Nets’ newest acquisition Blake Griffin also made his debut and scored an emphatic dunk to start off his journey with the team. Six-time All-Star Balke Griffin managed to register 2 points and 2 rebounds and 1 block in the 15 minutes he played.

Talking about the Washinton Wizards, they were led by Russell Westbrook who scored game-high 29 points. He earned his 14th triple-double with 29 points, 13 assists and 13 rebounds. Alex Len scored a season-high 20 points, and Rui Hachimura added 20 of his own alongside 10 rebounds. NBA leading scorer Bradley Beal struggled with just 17 points on 6-of-15 shooting for a 15-26 team that has lost eight of 10. Rui Hachimura had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Wizards. Alex Len also had 20 points.
After trailing by as many as 14 in the first half and 12 in the second, Washington pulled to 103-102 on Westbrook’s driving layup with 3 minutes remaining. But, Claxton produced two dunks while being fouled off feeds from Irving over the final stretch as Brooklyn never relinquished the lead.
Brooklyn trailed by as many as 14 points in the opening quarter and was behind 30-25 after the first quarter. Harden opened the second quarter by scoring the first nine points and the Nets never trailed again. The home team opened up its own game-high lead at 52-38 on Bruce Brown’s bucket with 4:54 left in the first half.
