On Sunday, Bryson DeChambeau emerged as the winner again. The Crushers GC captain took down Jon Rahm in a playoff round at Steyn City in South Africa to win the LIV Golf South Africa event and claim back-to-back wins. After his triumph, he would break down a bit and open up about some personal life struggles.

Last week, DeChambeau won the LIV Golf Singapore event by defeating Richard T. Lee in the playoff round. Fresh off that win, the American golfer was looking to extend his good form. Rahm, however, did not make it easy for him.

The Spaniard fired a bogey-free round. His 8-under 63 score, which included 6 birdies and 1 eagle, saw him finish with a 26-under par score and force a playoff. At the start of the day, he was 3 strokes behind.

In the playoff round, Rahm would find the bunker on his 2nd shot and miss out on his birdie putt on the par-5 18th hole. An impressive 2nd shot from DeChambeau set him up for an eagle putt. While he missed that, he still made a birdie on the hole and claimed his 5th LIV Golf victory.

Following his victory, DeChambeau got a bit emotional and had some tears in his eyes. While the 2-time major champion did not exactly explain what was going on with him, he claimed he had gone through a difficult time in the past week.

I wish I could tell you. A lot has happened in my last in the past week. … you work so hard at it your whole entire life, and you realize that golf is just golf and there’s a lot more to life than just golf.

Bryson DeChambeau told Jerry Foltz after his win

The golfer would choke up in the press conference as well. While speaking with the reporters, he would express gratitude towards his teammates, his caddie and his team for their support.

Just grateful. It’s been a tough few weeks. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows. But I can tell you that having these three great people up here and my caddie and the team around me really helped me persevere on through tough moments.

Bryson DeChambeau told the reporters

Before the tournament, a Reebok feature regarding DeChambeau came out. In the video montage, he would pay an emotional tribute to his late father, who passed away in November 2022.

DeChambeau’s 5th win on LIV Golf tied him for the 2nd most in the league’s history alongside Brooks Koepka. Joaquin Niemann sits in the top spot with 7 wins.

Speaking of his team, the Crushers GC came back from a 9-shot deficit to beat the home favorite, Southern Guards GC, to clinch the team championship. So, it was a double victory for DeChambeau on Sunday.

The Masters Tournament is one event that every golfer wants to win. Last year, DeChambeau expressed confidence in winning this major title soon.

He was in the final pairing group with Rory McIlroy on the Masters Sunday. After the Northern Irish struggled at the start, DeChambeau even found himself in the lead.

Unfortunately for him, he was unable to maintain it. Back-to-back bogeys on the 3rd and 4th holes saw him lose the grip.

He eventually finished the final round with a 3-over par score and had to settle with a T5 finish at 7-under par, 4 strokes behind McIlroy, who went on to beat Justin Rose to complete the career grand slam.

With the Masters Tournament around the corner, DeChambeau picked up the perfect time to gather some momentum. Following his back-to-back success, golf influencer Paige Spiranac made a bold claim, saying that DeChambeau could win the Masters Tournament soon.

I think we might see Bryson wearing a green jacket very soon

DeChambeau has around two weeks to prepare himself for the first major. Apart from the T5 finish at the Masters, he also finished T2 at the PGA Championship and T10 at the Open Championship last season. He did miss the cut at the U.S. Open after entering as the defending champion.
