23XI Racing Bubba Wallace is one of the most famous drivers in the current garage. He has rocky relationship with a huge set of NASCAR fans as well as some of his rivals on the track. Recently the veteran sat down with 2014 Cup champion Kevin Harvick for the Happy Hour podcast and name dropped the racer he hated the most in the past.
The driver in question is currently not a full-time Cup driver, instead is driving in the second division for Rochard Childress Racing. Bubba Wallace told Kevin Harvick that he used to hate Xfinity championship contender Austin Hill the most, and vice versa, while they were racing each other in the legend’s car series.
Oh man. Yeah, I think it would have to say Legend Cars. Man, the competition back then was super fierce. You know, I’m going to go with Austin Hill. Yeah, we hated each other. Yes. We hated each other, and it was always kind of – I knew he was in Trucks and stuff when I was kind of in Xfinity.
Bubba Wallace told Kevin Harvick.
But the dynamic between the duo changed, once Michael Jordan signed Wallace to race for 23XI Racing and brought him to the Toyota garage. At that time, Hill was racing in the Truck Series with Hattori Racing Enterprises, a TRD team. This gave them the opportunity to be around each other, as part of their alliance.
The duo started to talk to each other and quickly squash the beef. Now they are close friends, and often talks to each other, despite Hill moving on from Toyota to joining Chevy team RCR. Now when they talk about the old beef Wallace admitted that they feel everything happened was nuts as they seem to see the whole drama with a hilarious perspective.
Then, we were at Toyota together my first year at 23XI. He was at Hattori in the Truck stuff, and we were able to put all that stuff aside just from being around each other, and now we go back and talk about that stuff, and it’s nuts. Like, I remember his first year in Xfinity, I’m texting him like, ‘Hey man, maybe look at doing this differently.’ Pointers and stuff. Man, we hated each other.
Bubba Wallace added.
Bubba Wallace explains Michael Jordan’s involvement at 23XI
Squashing the beef with Austin Hill is one of the many benefits Bubba Wallace got after he signed with 23XI Racing. Working with his boss Michael Jordan, one of the biggest sport personals in the history was another advantage.

Wallace highlighted how Jordan is always involved in the team, by constantly talking to his drivers, before and after the race regardless of the results to keep them encouraged. Everyone in the 23XI race shop, the Airspeed knowns about this time investment from the boss.
We talk multiple times throughout the week, and definitely, there’s a text before and definitely after a race. He’s (MJ’s) watching. Good or bad, win, lose, or draw, he’s always watching… I think everybody at Airspeed (23XI’s shop) knows that MJ is invested mentally.
Bubba Wallace said.
The comments from Bubba Wallace shows Jordan is a very involved owner and he is effectively using his influence on the team to make them better. It will be interesting to see if drivers can reward this effort with race wins and championship triumphs.
