Bundesliga 2020/2021: Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke

Borussia Dortmund thrashed Schalke 3-0 in the Revierderby at Signal Iduna Park. Erling Haaland, Akanji and Hummels were among the goals as Schalke fell to another defeat. Moreover, this defeat has left Schalke without a win this season and are lying at the 17th place on the table. Meanwhile, Dortmund kept their title challenge on track and are currently at third place.

FIRST HALF

Dortmund played really well in the first half and controlled the game but couldn’t find an opening past the Schalke defense. They did come close with Dahoud hitting the post from 30 yards. However, Schalke held firm throughout the first half and gave themselves a fighting chance to win the game.

SECOND HALF

Borussia Dortmund started the second half determined to break the deadlock and did just that with Akanji getting the opener. Once the first goal was scored, more spaces opened up and Haaland got the second by delightfully lobbing the ball over the goalkeeper. Dortmund didn’t rest and killed the game off with a amazing header by Hummels to make it 3-0. With his goal, Haaland has now managed to score his fifth league goal of the season.

The good news was that 300 fans were allowed to watch the match from the stands and the hope is that more fans will be allowed once corona decreases. In addition, Dortmund will be happy with their performance and will be confident of beating Zenit in the next fixture of the champions league.
