The finals of the men’s and women’s 50m freestyle was held on the last day of swimming at Tokyo Olympics. The fast paced race is the most anticipated one of them all, and is over before you know it. This year’s 50m freestyle swimmers did not fail to impress, giving performances to the best of their abilities and leaving the audience at the edge of their seat.
Caeleb Dressel won the title of the 50m men’s freestyle champion, swimming the race in a blistering pace of 21.07s. He also shattered the old record set in 2008 which was 21.30s. It was France’s Florent Manaudou who took the silver medal, and his race ended in a photo finish with the bronze medallist Brazil’s Bruno Fratus. Florent finished the race with a time of 21.55s, while Fratus was just a whisker behind, finishing third with 21.57s.
Emma McKeon of Australia delivered an exceptional race, and took the 50m freestyle title, swimming with a time of 23.81s. McKeon broke the record she herself had set a few days ago, and became the first woman to break the 24s barrier at the Olympics. It was second place for Sweden’s Sarah Sjoestrom, who took silver swimming the race in 24.07s. Denmark’s Pernille Blume finished third on the podium, after a fast paced race, finishing the race with 24.21s.
