Caitlin Clark called for help as Sabrina Ionescu manifests 3-point contest with ‘Splash Bros’
Steph Curry and Klay Thompson could battle against Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark in NBA All-Star three-point contest.
Sabrina Ionescu teaming up with Caitlin Clark could be a tough battle for Steph Curry and Klay Thompson in the NBA All-Star three-point contest
After clinching her first WNBA title, All-Star weekend three-point contest record holder Sabrina Ionescu is set to resume her battle with Steph Curry. This year, it is expected that he will have his Splash Brother, Klay Thompson, alongside him. When the New York Liberty guard was asked last time if Caitlin Clark was going to be her teammate, she did not respond.
That was because, at the time, it was not clear if Caitlin Clark was going to turn professional this season. She had a year of eligibility left and had considered both scenarios. But a while later, she declared and amazed the crowd with her performances. After her first season, she has annihilated the WNBA’s rookie three-point scoring record.
She came close to breaking Ionescu’s single-season three-point scoring record. She did not shoot to her usual standards. With some much-needed rest and time to work on her shot, she should go back to being a threat from the outside.
Sabrina Ionescu has been on multiple stops after winning her first title. One of them being at her alma mater, the University of Oregon. She was at the pregame show when one of the hosts asked her if she would resume her battle against Steph Curry. If so, who she would team up with became the next and most important question.

This was the Liberty star’s choice to want Clark beside her when she takes on Curry and Klay Thompson. However, who the two leagues decide could be different. But going by the way in which the rookie brought that much attention, it is hard to think otherwise.
Caitlin Clark did not shoot to her usual three-point prowess
Caitlin Clark converted 37.8% of her threes during her final year with the Iowa Hawkeyes. In comparison, she managed to shoot at 34.4% in her rookie WNBA season. That number was much lower in the first half of the season.
Then, as she worked on her shot during the Olympic break, she became better. But when it comes to shooting threes, it requires a lot more energy and strength than when shooting closer to the basket. That energy was lacking as she was playing non-stop basketball from October 2023.
Now, she has already had more than a month of just rest. Even if she does end up playing in the Unrivaled League, she will have more than three months of not exerting her energy. Then on the road up to her second WNBA season, she will likely rest for a couple of more months.
All that rest will come in handy when she suits up for season two. Recovering energy, improving strength in the gym, and even working on her shot can help her rediscover her college efficiency. With a new head coach focusing their game around the star, the Iowa native will likely improve her scoring.
