In her first WNBA season, Caitlin Clark helped the league gain a lot of ground as a whole new wave of fans followed her. That meant, the league saw unprecedented increase in viewership, ticket and merchandise sales across all teams.

That massive increase in following fueled a growth that saw the league beat out all other brands in the country. Even her city of work managed to get a massive windfall in revenue. This was further proof that the hype surrounding the rookie was real.

Then when her play ratified that hype, the rest of the world was looking at Caitlin Clark as the one that will change the fortunes of the WNBA as well as for women’s sports. That led Time Magazine to name her Athlete of the Year. Quite an accomplishment considering she was only one the second basketball player to ever win.

The first reaction to this was from Washington Mystics owner Sheila Johnson. The billionaire discredited Clark’s impact and suggested that the whole league should have been on the cover of Time Magazine for what they have done collectively.

Fans, players and analysts launched scathing attacks against Johnson. It did not make sense as last season, Caitlin Clark helped Johnson’s Mystics set a record for attendance. They had to move the game to the Wizards’ Capital One Arena to cater to the massive demand for tickets.

Now, the situation has returned as the Washington Mystics have moved both their home games against the Indiana Fever to the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore. That arena seats nearly 14,000 fans whereas the Mystics’ home court at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in DC seats only 4200.

Fans tear into Sheila Johnson for discrediting Caitlin Clark

Basketball fans quickly noticed the updated schedule. They believe this is Sheila Johnson showing hypocrisy as her franchise did not give up those ticket sales to safeguard her opinion. Rather now, she allowed her team to capitalize on the growth that Caitlin Clark was bringing.

Fans took to social media to tear into the billionaire as more and more proof shows she was being petty. Check out examples of those comments below.

The fandom surrounding Caitlin Clark is not slowing down as Indiana Fever tickets are selling out faster than anyone. Even her preseason game at her alma mater has sold out in record time. Fans believe it is time for Sheila Johnson to acknowledge who is the primary attraction in the WNBA.
