Caitlin Clark gets Chris Paul co-sign after breaking WNBA assists record in rookie season

Caitlin Clark and Chris Paul

Caitlin Clark continues to live up to the hype that earned her the number one pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft with scintillating performances that have defied her status as a rookie. Her recent record-breaking performance has earned her rare recognition from none other than Chris Paul, who knows a thing or two about setting up dimes.

Chris Paul took to social media to congratulate the Indiana Fever rookie for setting the record for the most assists by a single player in a season when her team faced the Las Vegas Aces. The “Point God” himself, an assist maestro, gave a recognition that resonated well with fans.

Assisting is what we do. Congrats @CaitlinClark22 on breaking the @WNBA single season assist record!

The previous record was held by Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas, with 316 assists in 2023. Now, in her rookie season, Caitlin Clark has 321 and counting, making the achievement even more fantastic. She will have time to extend the record as the Fever finishes the season with a home game against the Dallas Wings and an away game against the Washington Mystics.

Chris Paul, who left the Golden State Warriors to team up with Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs, has a reputation as one of the best playmakers in NBA history. He has led the league in assists five times and is third on the all-time assist leaderboard. Such high praise coming from CP3 himself holds a lot of weight.

Indiana Fever veteran guard Erica Wheeler responds to Caitlin Clark’s critics

Despite putting up incredible performances and boosting the status of the WNBA, Caitlin Clark has got her fair share of critics. That includes WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes who once gave her the silent treatment as well as asserting that the Indiana Fever would have made the playoffs without Clark.

Whether that’s true or not, veteran guard Erica Wheeler wasn’t having it as she responded to a post on social media that asked the question Swoopes had responded to. The post has since gained traction on X with over 400k views and 11k likes.

No! But we here! Stay tuned in!

The Indiana Fever are already guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, a feat they haven’t been able to achieve in a while. And although it’s hard to predict if her aura is the reason that has been made it possible, there’s no denying that the Caitlin Clark effect is real.
