Finally, the long and intense WNBA battle between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese may have been settled in favor of the Indiana Fever star as she was unanimously voted the Associated Press’ WNBA Rookie of the Year by a 15-person panel. This strong endorsement could be a sign of things to come in the official Rookie of the Year voting, where Clark is the frontrunner.

It didn’t seem this way earlier in the season, as Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese posed a challenge, especially with her impressive double-doubles. However, after the Olympic break, things changed as the trajectories of Clark and Reese took different paths with Clark leading the Fever to their first playoff appearance since 2016, while Reese and the Sky struggled, ultimately missing the postseason.

This is a tremendous honor to be named The Associated Press Rookie of the Year. This recognition wouldn't be possible without an incredible group of teammates and coaches, and we are looking forward to continuing an exciting regular season in the postseason.

Sadly, Reese’s candidacy was weakened further due to a wrist injury that sidelined her for Chicago’s final six games. Meanwhile, Clark ended the season on a high note, averaging 23.1 points and 8.9 assists over Indiana’s last 14 games.

Despite the doubts and criticism, she lived up to the immense hype that followed her from a stellar college career at Iowa. And her unanimous selection as AP Rookie of the Year is well-earned which follows her being named in the top five of the WNBA MVP voting list.

This WNBA season has been filled with fantastic performances from Clark as she shattered several records, including dishing out more assists than any player in WNBA history (337). Furthermore, she also became the first rookie to record a triple-double, with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists in a game against the New York Liberty.
