Caitlin Clark will start her pre-season training with her new team in the coming days.
Caitlin Clark experiences an awkward moment during the first WNBA press conference with the Indiana Fever
The first official Indiana Fever press conference featuring Caitlin Clark drew a massive turnout of reporters. She gracefully answered all the questions about moving to Indiana. However, one flirty reply from a reporter brought out an awkward moment for the former college superstar.
As the former Iowa Hawkeyes star was answering questions, Indiana Star reporter Gregg Doyel flashed her the heart sign she usually makes after games. Clark replied to that saying that she shows that to her family a lot. To this, Doyel replied that:
Start doing it to me and we'll get along just fine.Gregg Doyel to Caitlin Clark at a press conference
Clark kept smiling to avoid answering the weird response. However, it goes to show that she did get uncomfortable. Thankfully, the reporter moved on to a more relevant question.
Later, Caitlin Clark composed herself and continued to answer the rest of the questions the way she usually does. However, it goes to show that one question could derail a player’s shining moment in front of the media. It takes a lot of media training and self-composure to avoid such situations from blowing up.
The Indiana Fever is already riding the wave of fan following the all-time college scoring record holder has brought along. Fans clamored for seats inside the Gainbridge Fieldhouse arena as Clark’s name was called out during the WNBA draft. Suddenly it seems, that the attention of the sporting world has turned to Indiana.
Tyrese Haliburton welcomes Caitlin Clark to Indiana
With Caitlin Clark joining the Indiana Fever, it will be the 1st time that 2 young basketball superstars are plying their trade in the same city, but with different teams. Indiana Pacers superstar Tyrese Haliburton and head coach Rick Carlisle were present for the press conference and greeted their city’s newest star and exchanged pleasantries.
Tyrese Haliburton is one of the most exciting young superstars to emerge in the league. He lifted his game to an All-Star level during his two years there and is preparing to help his Pacers team go on a deep playoff run. Clark talked about the NBA playoffs and said that she and her new teammates will be watching and supporting their male compatriots.
Along with Indianapolis Colts star young quarterback Anthony Richardson in the mix, it seems the light of the sporting world will shine directly on the state of Indiana for some time. Clark’s popularity will definitely help both the state as well as her team in the WNBA.
