Williams responded to his claims by specifying details of the injuries he has suffered over the years in college.

The price of fame is hefty. With the NFL Draft 2024 fast approaching, there is a common consensus amongst fans and the media that Caleb Williams of USC will be the undisputed first pick in the draft. The soon-to-be Chicago Bear has attracted the ire of the public for being unconventional. 

Owing to the fact that his name attracts views, it has unfortunately become customary for individuals to criticize him despite being unaware of his journey as a freshman to becoming the best draft prospect in his class.

 Caleb Williams has never experienced adversity...very little adversity as far as how he was received and how he was portrayed as the next best guy...I do wonder if there is a sense of entitlement, is there the chip on the shoulder that's going to keep him going 10-12 years down the road the way it does Mahomes.
Caleb Williams was called out by Greg McElroy, who said,

The analyst is not certain if Williams will be able to tap into a part of him that will ignite his competitiveness when the going gets rough.

He brought up instances of great players who are able to keep going because of a chip they have on their shoulders. Such as Patrick Mahomes, who uses the fact that he was drafted 10th overall to be better than the rest; Tom Brady, who constantly reminded himself that he was drafted in the sixth round and was overlooked by teams for being slow and lacking the build of an athlete.

And finally, Peyton Manning, who used the fact that he was overlooked for the Heisman Trophy to ignite his competitive fire.

Caleb Williams took offense to this, the quarterback wasted no time in lashing out at McElroy’s claims by specifying the adversities he has had to endure year-by-year.

He began his response by mentioning the dictionary definition of the word adversity, then he went on to state that he did not start in his freshman year and in his second year, he suffered a hamstring injury in the championship game which ultimately resulted in USC facing defeat.

This year, his team ended the season with a 7-5 record, not the way Williams had envisioned his final year of college football to go. With these incidents, he believes that McElroy has no standing to call him out and claim that Caleb Williams has no chip on his shoulder and walks around with a sense of entitlement because he has been through his own set of challenges.

If that does not suffice, the mere fact that he gets so much unwarranted hate from fans and has a constant shadow of doubt around him when his talents and capabilities as a franchise QB are talked about must also be considered as a form of adversity. Granted, his definition of adversity may not compare to that faced by other quarterbacks but that does not mean it can be negated.

Each person is different, and the challenges face by them are different, and as a result, it will not be fair to completely dismiss the situations that they may consider to be adversity.

Williams has the biggest chip on his shoulder, as does the first pick in every NFL Draft. The reason is that the first pick of the NFL Draft walks around with the pressure of having to outperform every player in the draft class so that they do not end up being labeled a bust.
