Doubles Tennis coach Calvin Betton has slammed the ATP for being too obsessed with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, while giving no coverage to doubles players on tour. Betton highlighted that even the broadcast media have shifted away from showing doubles matches, while being more focused on top players.
For the second consecutive year, Alcaraz and Sinner have dominated the ATP Tour, with both players playing their best tennis on tour. They have also enjoyed an impressive run of form and consistency that has drawn massive media attention.
They have been dubbed to become the next Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on tour, having won all the past eight Grand Slams since last year. Sinner and Alcaraz have won four Grand Slams each, with no other player coming close to stopping them. In fact, in the last three Grand Slam finals, Sinner and Alcaraz have faced each other.
Alcaraz won two of those meetings, including the scintillating high-level French Open final in June. Meanwhile, Sinner claimed the Wimbledon Championships final, where he came from a set down to beat the Spaniard. That was his first victory over Alcaraz in over a year and a half. Sinner earned his second win against Alcaraz this season at the ATP Finals in Turin.
The rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner has become the center of major discussion on tour. During interviews, current and former players are asked about them. During a conversation on the Chip n Charge Tennis podcast, Betton criticizes the ATP for being obsessed with the Alcaraz and Sinner rivalry:
It bothers me that there’s no promotion for doubles. None at all. If you go to Tennis TV, try to find a segment on doubles, you won’t find any. This year, I’ve seen videos of tennis players playing golf, skateboarding, and shaking hands. They’re obsessed with the fact that every time Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner pass each other in a corridor, they set up a camera and say, ‘Two legends meet,’ as if it happens every week. There’s no reason to always film that. It’s pathetic.
Alcaraz and Sinner are currently enjoying their pre-season in the United States of America and the UAE, respectively. There’s a growing expectation that Sinner will attend the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, just days after Alcaraz attended an Interview in Miami and met with football legend Lionel Messi.
Carlos Alcaraz to team up with Davis Cup champion during his pre-season training in the United States of America
Carlos Alcaraz will be teaming up with Davis Cup champion Flavio Cobolli during his pre-season training ahead of his exhibition tournaments. The World No.1 missed out on the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna, where his country reached the championship match. Should he have played at the event, he might have faced Cobolli on the court.

But he sustained a minor injury during his match against Jannik Sinner at the ATP Finals in Turin. He lost to the Italian star in straight sets and did not want to take an unnecessary risk at the Davis Cup Finals. However, Cobolli was Italy’s hero at the event, beating Jaume Munar in the final to help his country win the Davis Cup for the third consecutive year.
Also, Cobolli enjoyed a breakthrough on the court this season. He became World No.17 in July after reaching his first Grand Slam quarter-finals at the Wimbledon Championships, before losing to Novak Djokovic. He claimed his first two tour-level titles during the clay-court season, but culminated the year as World No.22.
Nonetheless, Alcaraz will feature in three exhibition tournaments, before the 2026 season starts. The 22-year-old will play Frances Tiafoe in New Jersey, at the A Racquet At The Rock. He will then travel to Florida the following day to play Joao Fonseca at the Miami Invitational. Eight days before the Australian Open, he will face Sinner in Seoul, South Korea.
