Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton believes the Green Bay Packers have a brand-new swagger this season. Newton gave much of the credit to the team’s newly signed linebacker Micah Parsons, who left the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason following a lengthy and hostile contract standoff.
In the highly anticipated Thursday Night Football game of week 2, the Green Bay Packers quashed the Washington Commanders 27-18. According to Optima Stats on X, the Packers became the first team in NFL history to record at least four sacks while holding opponents to 60 rushing yards or fewer and 200 net passing yards or fewer.
The match between the Commanders and the Packers was acclaimed as the game that would determine the NFC team that would challenge the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC spot in the Super Bowl.
The victory, therefore, cemented them as one of the leading contenders for the championship in the NFC. Former Carolina Panthers MVP winning QB, Cam Newton shared on ESPN’s First Take that the Packers suddenly look and feel like a team ready to challenge anyone in the league. He was not singing the same tune about the Packers two weeks ago.
The Packers just look different. They feel different. The aura is there, and it’s like they think, ‘We’re the best team in the NFL’.
Cam Newton said
Newton called Parsons a “game-changer,” noting how the former Dallas Cowboys star has quickly transformed Green Bay’s defense and overall energy.
I got a defensive wrecker. I got a mood-shifter. I got a tone setter. I got an attitude-adjuster. When you see the impact of what a Micah Parsons can bring to the table, Jordan Love starts to look different, too. The receiver core starts to act different. Everybody in the whole stadium is even cheering different.
Newton explained

In Newton’s view, Parsons has created a domino effect. Parsons’ presence has raised the expectations and given the Packers’ identity a much-needed aggressive touch. Newton highlighted that kind of influence as rare, saying the excitement around the team “is apparent from start to finish.”
Micah Parsons sparks new identity as Packers eye Super Bowl after 2–0 start
Micah Parsons, who joined the Green Bay Packers a week ahead of the new season, is only two games into his tenure but is already making headlines. Their defense looked sharper and more disciplined against Washington, and the win gave the team a 2–0 start.

Parsons’ speed and versatility disrupted the Commanders’ offense all night, helping the Packers control the game. The linebacker’s performance seems to have boosted confidence across the roster and also the fanbase. Even the crowd at Lambeau Field felt different to Cam Newton, who said the energy from fans matched the team’s new intensity. They were heard congratulating Jerry Jones for not signing him.
After the win, Parsons addressed his expectations in a post-game interview with Amazon Prime. While he kept the focus on steady improvement, he acknowledged that the Super Bowl is the ultimate target.
I think we can do great things, but at the end of the day, as you all know, it just goes week by week. We got to consistently put that effort, that energy, every week, and then great things could happen. We can get back to that Bowl.
