ESPN is getting yet another elite veteran added to its star-studded roster. Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has signed a deal with the network to make weekly appearances on the flagship show First Take.
With the addition of Cam Newton to the First Take panel, the show just got a whole lot more entertaining to watch! He will be joining Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe, the duo that has already established itself as the most-watched pairing when it comes to sports debate shows. With the addition of Newton, the bizarre analogies and comparisons made on air will just increase!
Cam Newton is set to make his debut on First Take on the 11th of October during the show’s taping at Tennessee State University. The crew will introduce him as the latest member of the show in its ongoing HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) roadshow.)
Cam Newton’s bold yet entertaining personality will be a great addition to ESPN’s crew
The 2015 NFL MVP is truly a different breed. Cam Newton embarked into the media game relatively recently with his YouTube channel and podcast, 4th & 1 with Cam Newton. Up until this point, he had become notorious for two things, his bizarre fashion sense and the creative font options he used while writing the captions of his social media posts.
However, the podcast allowed fans to see a different side of Cam Newton. His takes are entertaining, expressed in a charismatic manner, and more importantly, they are bold.
Newton says it as he sees it. He does not shy away from going up against the popular opinion. ESPN’s Executive VP and Editor of Sports News and Entertainment, David Roberts expressed his optimism at the addition of Newton.
The show currently ranks atop its competition in terms of ratings. Now the numbers will reach new peaks as fans will enjoy the chemistry between the hosts.

The former NFL quarterback is looking forward to his new role at ESPN.
In the past year, ESPN has carried out a revamp of its NFL crew. This began with numerous cuts across the board earlier this year.
Eventually, the network brought Jason Kelce onboard to make him a part of the Monday Night Football crew. This move has yielded a significant push in ratings as the former Eagles’ center has an entertaining and charismatic presence combined with antics that fans love to watch! The network then added Nick Saban to the College Football gameday crew along with Pat McAfee, a truly genius move as fans are seeing a side of the former Alabama HC they never knew existed!
ESPN is focusing on bringing aboard veterans that have exceptional credentials on the football field and a charismatic yet outgoing personality. The network understands that in the current environment, the consumption habits of viewers has changed.
Fans no longer want to watch a sports debate show that is strictly about football. They want to have fun watching the show and due to that, having a panel with diverse personalities is of paramount importance.
