NFL Week 6 has brought a thrilling “Battle of Beltway” between the Washington Commanders and Baltimore Ravens on the coming Sunday. Not only it’s a match between two of the highest-scoring offenses of this league, but also two dual-threat quarterbacks: Lamar Jackson and Jayden Daniels.
Daniels, a standout performer in just five games, has quickly gathered attention from all around for his train of achievements. Meanwhile, Jackson, despite never winning a Super Bowl, is widely recognized for his exceptional skills and has already established his performance with two NFL MVP awards. With both the signal-callers possessing dual-threat abilities, a comparison between them is anything but a surprise.
However, former NFL quarterback Cam Newton recently addressed the ongoing comparison between both quarterbacks, urging the critics and analysts to “put a full stop,” arguing it diminishes the unique talent of each player.
Admitting that the league hasn’t seen quarterbacks perform as well as Daniels this early in their career, if he outperformed the two-time NFL MVP, it wouldn’t determine the latters’ incapability or the former being a better player at the age of 23.
Jayden Daniels rejects comparisons to Lamar Jackson, calls for unique identity
While talking about ending the comparison between two prominent quarterbacks with unique talents of their own, Newton also addressed that the Commanders’ rookie has also requested everyone to stop comparing him with a player like Jackson. The main argument the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner put forward was to build his own identity and not be known as someone’s successor.
In just five games, he has set as well as broken many records, including the ones set by legends like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Though he has great respect for Jackson, he wants to build his own legacy in the league and be known by his name.
