Rookie pitcher Cam Schlittler has been caught up in the huge rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. On Wednesday, the 24-year-old penned down a note on social media regarding his ties with Boston after his family got attacked online.
The right-handed pitcher was born in Walpole, Massachusetts and would play college baseball for the Northeastern Huskies. In the 2022 MLB draft, Schlittler was drafted by the Yankees. He would receive a $205,000 signing bonus while joining the New York-based outfit.
After spending some time in the minor leagues, Schlittler made his MLB debut this season. He was called up from the minors after Clarke Schmidt suffered a season-ending injury.
The rookie pitcher immediately made his mark on the MLB. In his major league debut against the Seattle Mariners, he threw 5.1 innings and picked up 7 strikeouts while giving up 4 hits and 3 earned runs.
He ended the regular season with a 4-3 record in 14 games while pitching with a 2.96 ERA and picking up 84 strikeouts. He would become an instant hit among the Yankees fans.
The Bronx Bombers ended the campaign with a 94-68 record. As the Toronto Blue Jays finished with the same record, the Yankees were forced to play in the Wild Card Series, as the Canadian side held the tiebreaker over them.
This saw them take on the Red Sox in the best-of-three Wild Card Series. After losing Game 1, they bounced back in Game 2 to set up a winners-take-all Game 3.
Schlitter, the Boston-born pitcher, would dominate the Red Sox in Game 3. He threw 8 scoreless innings and picked up 12 strikeouts as the Yankees defeated them 4-0 and advanced to the American League Division Series (ALDS).
He would later tell Jon Heyman that he was motivated by the “unhinged” Red Sox fans who had taunted his family, including his mother, on social media.
On Wednesday, Schlittler released a note regarding his ties with Boston and the feud between the two teams. He revealed being “caught off guard” by the attack on his family during the postseason.
I knew how l’d be received starting that game, but I didn’t expect people from the area where I grew up to attack my family. Criticism is something I’ve always handled well, and that stuff doesn’t bother me — it just caught me off guard. I know l’ve been vocal since that start, but I truly respect Boston and that organization. A rivalry is a rivalry, and my loyalty is with New York for as long as I’m here.

Cam Schlittler had taken shots at Boston after eliminating them from the Wild Card Series
The rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox saw another postseason chapter this year. The Yankees came out on top once again against the Red Sox following a dominating Game 3 performance from Cam Schlitter. After that game, he took a few shots at Boston.

The Yankees’ No.31 took a massive shot at influencer Lucy Burdge following his Game 3 win. The social media influencer had posted a picture of herself on X while wearing a Red Sox top and wrote “Sox in 3” in her caption.
Schlittler would come across this post after the game. The pitcher would drop a 3-word reaction and trolled her and the Red Sox fanbase following their defeat.

A few days after the Yankees were eliminated by the Blue Jays in the ALDS, Schlittler would attend the New York Knicks’ season-opening game at Madison Square Garden. A video of him would later go viral on social media.
Outside of the arena in his car, Schlittler would sign off a few autographs for the fans. During this, a fan would shout, “F*** Boston.” The pitcher would enthusiastically respond, “Yeah, f*** Boston.”
These words perhaps did not sit well with some Boston fans. At the moment, it is not clear whether a specific or recent event led to the post from Schlittler on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, after several fans attacked him for his note, he would take a swipe at the Blue Jays once again. He shrugged off the critics and expressed that the Blue Jays fans can remain “mad” at him.
