The Miami Hurricanes are making headlines for their remarkable comeback victory against the California Golden Bears, led by quarterback Cam Ward. However, he appeared to be trending on social media for a completely different reason.
Scoring a whopping 25 points in the second half, the Hurricanes clinched the victory with a single point at 39-38, on a game-winning touchdown. In the excitement of the last-minute feat, the senior quarterback seemed to have forgotten that he was on live camera post-game and ended up blurting out some expletive.
Following the game, Ward joined ESPN’s SportsCenter live for a post-game interview to talk about the biggest comeback victory of the season he pulled against the Golden Bears.
Although the 22-year-old’s language was foul, his emotions were understandable. Completing 35 out of his 53 passes for 437 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, Ward’s performance is being praised as Heisman Trophy-worthy.
Miami’s dramatic fourth quarter secures second straight comeback win
Till less than four minutes left in the third quarter, the Hurricanes were down 35-10. But as they entered the fourth quarter, they dominated the field and outscored the Golden Bears 21-0, with the quarterback contributing to all three scores. With this victory, Miami has pulled off the biggest comeback since 2003 and the second consecutive with a fourth-quarter rally.
Just like this week, they also pulled off a last-minute victory against the Virginia Tech Hokies at 38-34 last week. They would have been witnessing the first season loss, but Ward demanded his team to step up, and they sure did in second half of the game.
In the last 26 seconds left in the game, the 2024 Heisman Trophy candidate clinched the victory by passing a five-yard touchdown pass aimed at his teammate, tight end Elijah Arroyo, which improved them to a 5-0 season-standing.
