The NFL has suspended Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cameron Sutton for eight games without pay over violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. He will be eligible to return in Week 8 of the 2024-25 season when the Steelers take on the New York Giants.
The reason for Cameron Sutton‘s suspension is over his involvement in a dispute that led to a domestic battery by strangulation charge, which was eventually reduced to a misdemeanor charge. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news first.

The 29-year-old cornerback entered a pretrial diversion program to resolve his domestic violence case on the 8th of April. He is not allowed to have any weapons or firearms in his possession and is required by law to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Cameron Sutton turned himself in after being wanted for weeks. On the 7th of March, law enforcement authorities in the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office responded to a call early in the morning that alleged Sutton battered a woman before fleeing the scene.
Cameron Sutton was released by the Detroit Lions after a warrant for his arrest was put out
The 94th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft had signed a three-year contract with the Lions for $33 million. However, the team cut him loose after learning about the allegations against him. He was a consistent presence on the field as he started every game for the team and ended the 2023-24 season with 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, and 50 tackles.

Lions team president Rod Wood revealed that Sutton was in the team’s practice facility when the team found out about the warrant and they attempted to advise him to fully cooperate with the law.
We were able to reach out to Cam and talk about it, and we suggested he seek counseling and do the right thing and turn himself in. After that, we met the rest of the day and the next morning to decide whether to release him.Rod Wood said (H/T: freep.com)
The Lions were not sure about how the proceedings would go and opted to save themselves from the uncertainty by releasing him.
Sutton signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier last month. In many ways, he returned home as he spent the first six years of his professional career playing in the black and yellow. While the NFL’s suspension will render him ineligible to play for the first half of the upcoming season, he will be able to contribute to the team in the second half of the season.
